writing about crafting

So this is a different kind of post today. I'm planning on talking more about Campfire and Scrivener, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about one of the things I do when I'm not writing. I've always been big into arts and crafts, and I tend to lean towards things where I get to create something that I can hold and then show off to other people. During Lockdown a lot of people I know got into various crafting projects because it was something they could do without leaving the house. I found most of my usual crafting things I couldn't do as I was livi g at my then girlfriend's house and I didn't have l of my card making or jewellery making tools with me.  I needed a new hobby. It wasnt long after the countless lockdowns that I finally asked my mum to teach me how to crochet. I knew how to knit from many years back, but I wasn't great at it and I tended to lose patience with it as I could only do the absolutely basic stitch (I couldn't ever remember how...

When I am working on a new story I tend to try various apps and programmes to see if they can help me to organise my thoughts and also remember details about characters and places. This is me using Campfire's timeline feature on their phone app.  I've only used the timeline twice, and both within only recent days, but it turns out that I actually really like it. I usually go into a lot of my stories with a basic idea and it's only after I've done the dry run or rough draft that I start to know what I actually want to do with it.  The timeline below is for thensecond book in the SandWish series, which I've been a little stuck on for a while. I know what I want to happen, but I keep losing my focus, but this time I think I have got a real plan for it. Each new event on the timeline gets a short title, and then a brief description that I can check by tapping on the title. I can also link other events from other chapters so I know what is happening at the same time.  Th...

Planning and Writing

Every day I set myself a challenge to plan a scene in whatever I'm writing at the moment,  though at the moment I'm working out the timeline for one of my books.  Years ago I started writing Kalmari,  which became the first book in the SandWish Series.  I finished the first book,  got stuck on the second,  and did a first draft for the third,  fourth,  and part of fifth.  I've tried a couple of times to do the second book,  but I keep getting stuck at the same point,  more or less.  This time I'm determined to get the second book finished and I think I finally know how I'm going to do it.  I'm having a multi perspective view of the same events,  so each chapter will concentrate on a different character and how they saw what was going on and what they were thinking about it.  It should make it a bit easier to plan as well cos I can just keep looking back at the main timeline and work out which of the important mom...
